Homework

We believe that children achieve their full potential when home and school work well together and we want to establish a positive partnership that will benefit your child. Children at Gracefield will be given homework to complete out of school. This could be research, a topic related task, a formal piece of writing or a project to complete.  In addition, each child is expected to read, learn spellings and multiplication tables from Year 1 onwards.  

At Gracefield School our children are introduced to homework by bringing reading home and we hope that parents will want to share books with their children and help with new words.  In Years 3 and 4 pupils will be expected to complete approx. 20 minutes homework per night, which increases gradually until Year 6 when children will need to work up to 40 minutes. To support your child further at home there are a range of activities that we suggest you do regularly.

READING - Children will have home reading books.  Please listen to your child read regularly and read to them.  Children who are good at reading do well in all subjects as a result.  We have a well-stocked library and the children are encouraged to borrow from a wide range of reading material including fiction, non-fiction and audio books.  

MATHS - Help your child to learn their times tables off by heart and to do mental maths. This could be by counting and adding on their way to school or working out the change when shopping.  It all helps to make children confident with numbers.  

Homework is carefully selected to support your child's learning, and we hope that the children will enjoy it!
