History

At Gracefield School, History is introduced to our children at Key Stage 1 and is continued through Key Stage 2.

The objective of the course is to allow our children to develop an awareness of the past, the ways in which it differs from the present and what impact History has had on our present day lives.

In Key Stage 1 the subject is taught through a variety of topics, often using historical objects and stories of famous people and events as starting points.

In Key Stage 2, history is taught through defined topics, for example:

- The Greeks
- The Romans
- The Victorians
- The Tudors
- Ancient Egyptians
- World War ll

Both Ancient and Modern History are addressed in Key Stage 2 including a unit of local history based on World War 2.

The children will acquire precise historical skills based on the key questions "How do we know?", "What happened?", and "Why?"
