Houses

At Gracefield the school is divided up into four houses.  Eagle, Kestrel, Falcon and Hawk.  Each house has members from all of the year groups. Year 6 pupils are House Captains which alternate each term.  The Captains give impromptu speeches at Friday morning assembly encouraging the younger children in their house to earn as many house points as possible.  Housepoints are given by the teachers for a wide variety of effort and achievement.  At the end of each term, one of the house captains enjoys a proud moment during the end-of-term concert when they receive the House Cup wearing the colour ribbons of their winning team.

Reception Class

Miss Baber writes.....We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage in Reception that covers the 6 areas of learning. These are taught through a fun, messy and active child-lead curriculum that is based on learning through play. Reception are very fortunate to have Mrs.Wright as their full-time teaching assistant.

Class 1

Mrs. Sinclair writes.....We are the grounding for the National Curriculum covering phonics, grammar and basic awareness of number, shape, area, time and money. We love our 'Toys - present and past' unit and have an amazing time visiting the seaside.  'Houses and Homes' together with 'Friends and Followers' are two of our favourite topics, not forgetting Barnaby Bear who travels around the world in our Geography topic.

Class 2

Miss Baber writes.....Having arrived at the top of KSI, the children in Class 2 build on the skills acquired so far. Learning to swim, practising times tables and even starting to join our handwriting are all new activities that Class 2 children begin to experience as part of their timetable.

Class 3

Miss Sloman writes.....This is the first class in KSII where the children are learning to work with more independence. My class take responsibility for their own desk space and are working towards gaining a fountain pen licence.  Our exciting topics for the year include 'The Romans', The Ancient Greeks' and 'What's in the News?'

Class 4

Mrs. Grace writes.....Science and 'hands-on' experiments is a favourite in Class 4. 'Time-to-talk' gives the pupils an opportunity to research a topic of their choice and then present it to the rest of the class.  'Working together as a team' is our class motto and the children practise achieving this all year.  The Tudors, as well as Anglo Saxons and Vikings, are our topics for this Year.

Class 5

Mr. Rumley writes.....You can often find Class 5 in very unusual classroom settings around the school.  Apart from the regular classroom, a lesson could take place in the library, front garden or in the playground.  Year 5 continue pushing forward with the learning of spellings and times tables. The pupils in Class 5 work hard on independent projects which they choose to investigate.

Class 6

Mrs. Baker writes.....Year 6 have reached the top of the school now and are given posts of responsibilities. These include Prefects, House Captains, Librarians as well as the pupil-elected Student Council. The pupils often make impromptu speeches whilst rallying their House during Friday morning assembly. We have a Head Girl and Deputy Head Boy who keep their posts all year. PGL activity weekend away is a very exciting part of the Class 6's calendar.
