Assembly

The whole school gathers together twice a week for collective worship which is based on our core principles and Christian values.  These are special times when we come together as a group to learn Christian morals and teachings and to celebrate the children's achievements that week.  'Beacons for Behaviour' are set and announced by the Deputy Head pupil and the House Captains encourage their teams to achieve these goals throughout the week. During Friday assembly all the children reaching these targets are honoured.  The Head pupil celebrates birthdays. We encourage our musically talented children to shine by playing their instruments or singing whilst the school come in to assembly.

Achievement Cups

Every Friday, teachers have the opportunity to select a pupil who may be honoured by being awarded one of our four achievement cups. The Handwriting Cup, Key Stage II Sports Cup, Key Stage I Sports Cup and the Special Honour Cup are awarded weekly. The Special Honour Cup is awarded for individual achievements recognised by the teacher.  Rarely is this an academic award.

Weekly House Points earned, as well as the running totals, are announced by the House Captains. Hawk, Eagle, Kestrel and Falcon House Captains make impromptu speeches to rally the troops to strive to achieve even more house points during the coming week. At the end of each term the ribbons are changed (or occasionally stay the same!!) according to which House earned the highest total of House Points. During the end of term Concert the winner is announced and the Captain is presented with the cup in front of all the parents. There is a termly sporting challenge and the team with the highest points has the honour of having their colour ribbons on the Sports Cup.

Outside Achievements

Children are encouraged to bring in cups, medals, certificates and awards achieved during their outside activities, such as rugby cups, horse-riding rosettes, swimming medals.

Class Assemblies

Each class invites their parents to attend two Class Assemblies per year. This gives them a VIP audience of friendly faces to watch them perform their Topic based presentation or Christian story. The whole school is thoroughly entertained by these presentations which develop performance skills and build confidence in a small arena. Afterwards we encourage parents to stay for refreshments to socialise with their children.

Star of the Week

We are always delighted to award our Star of the Week trophies to those children shining brightly and showing outstanding achievement or effort during the week. Each class teacher selects and announces the reason this individual praise is awarded. Their smiling faces appear in the weekly Newsletter.

Special Assemblies

Occasionally we welcome special visitors who come and take our school assemblies.  The ABC team are amongst the children's favourites with their puppets and Bible songs. Other visitors that represent various charities often come to help the children understand more of their work. We invite local community specialists, such as the police, to come and talk to the children during assembly.

Remembrance Sunday is marked with a special assembly where a representative of the Royal British Legion leads our service.  Elderly folk who have memories or war memorabilia join us to share their experiences.
